It has been said that many hands make a big job lighter. I believe that is true. If an idea is solid enough to convince a few brave souls to climb aboard and venture into the great unknown then incredible discoveries await. The danger of loosing your heart is also very real.

This is not so serious as saying good-bye to the Planet Earth and taking your chances in the vast universe, yet which one of us has not considered playing a small part in history to take that voyage. 

My faith in the music of Paul Kantner and his many collaborators to  bring together a Community has never been shaken. Jefferson Starship was born in the Chaos of the assembly of a group of musicians that called themselves the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra. This Band was an example to me that people can come together and be of one voice, yet retain the individual voice of each contributor.

Today these ideals have been packaged up as nostalgic trips by the Media conglomerates that did not understand then and most certainly dos not understand now.

I was able to find the folks at RCA/Sony that respected the music, remembered what the whole scene was all about. I was able to convince them that Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra should be released and I was able to raise a bunch of money from a few individuals to get this album out.

That was phase one. Phase two was to get an International Broadcast of the music of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship via the web that was 100% in compliance with RIAA standards (so we were not ripping anyone off as far a licensing).

Now we have this site, an album we can distribute that is sanctioned by RCA, from the actual master tapes (not a bootleg), a radio show that will start this summer and the entire catalogue of the PERRO artists. 

There only remains one more task. To create a Foundation that will take over these resources and preserve this music for the ages to come.

It is time to complete the last phase of this project. To assemble a group of people that can support these efforts by getting involved. I have assembled a Flight Kit for those first 100 folks who are interested in helping me to create the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Preservation Society. I need 100 volunteers from all over the Planet to help me to spread the word.

I was on C-Span during a discussion about making copies of music from store bought CDs. I mentioned that I worked for Jefferson Starship. The commentator was both amused but also surprised that the Band was still playing. He said,

"Are they still around?"

I replied that I was tired of that question and YES- THEY KICK BUTT! I am sending him a few CDs.

I am hoping that the first Foundation Members will help to create more awareness of the music and rich history of the Band(s).

I have put together a package that will enable every Foundation Member to both help spread the word and receive a small financial reward in the process.

But if you are going to a store, or happen to enjoy a local public Radio Station, or you are at a club or simply among friends, this is an opportunity to be a representative of the Foundation. This is something that could grow-

 I can see a day that the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Preservation Society is a world wide organization that has an expanded mission and some really cool places to meet. I salute "The Ship" in England for inspiration. They meet to exchange music, beverages and good times. I can imagine people all over the world doing the same thing.

I have taken this as far as one person can. Anyone who has an idea should pursue it, especially if you believe that the long term benefits outweigh the short term sacrifices.  I have always depended on the fact that I am not alone.   There are many that feel the way I do but do not have the same opportunities to fulfill a challenge, instead many wait for  the right opportunity to become a part of a team.

I have been blessed to work with the Jefferson Starship and the many other artists that I have met. I have made some wonderful friends among my fellow Jeffersonites. It would be irresponsible for me to not attempt to unite us under a common banner.

This concert was taped by HDNet because of a suggestion made by fellow A Deck Passenger Betsy Harrison and was produced by HDNet and Michael Gafman.   Marty Balin's classic Rock and Roll Musical-Rock Justice is now available on DVD. Recorded live in 1979 at the Old Waldorf, San Francisco this release features a stellar cast, a kick ass band and lots of zany action!

This is a story drawn from Marty Balin's real life experiences and satirizes the music industry and the Legal system simultaniously. Most of the story unfolds on stage where the singer (Jesse Bradman from Night Ranger and Eddie Money) finds himself in a nightmarish rock and roll courtroom. His crime-the failure to write a hit single.

Marty directed and wrote many of the songs on this DVD but only appears in a cameo. The cast is from many seminal SF Bands such as Y&T, The Tubes, Rox, The Rubinoos and The Nuns.This is a wonderful performance, I have watched it several times and still keep finding more antics! This is funny, sad, ironic and will make you somewhat angry with the antagonsists (which is a good thing). 

While this performance has been in the vault for 25 years, I'll bet that this story will be resurected for generations to come.

PAUL KANTNER DISCUSSES PERRO

 When we got our own website I decided to take the vanity publishing route and I did the whole thing myself on this little homegrown business that we do here on our website.  I went and re-edited, type-checked, spell checked and added this and that and put together a 500 page novel and a CD and combined it from the music from the same novel. We  are putting it up for sale on our website.

 This is a step further down the line. I'm telling the people who liked the Airplane and the Starship, "Here's another step if you want to take it." Not this band, but this concept. I think our generation is already doing that, likening people to the prospect of being out there in a natural setting rather than it being some big science fiction place where big green guys are after you, or the moon is green cheese. It's a natural environment and that's the first step to getting people ready to go. It's like the way it was getting people ready to come to America, to go across in a covered wagon after they've lived in Vienna with Mozart and everything. "What do we wanna go in the fucking covered wagon for?" Because there's something there to do for those who want to do it. For the weirdos that want to do it. For the weirdos that wanna go.
